Mental Health Support Assistant – Barnet
A high-achieving boys secondary school in Barnet is seeking a Mental Health Support Assistant for September 2026. This role is ideal for a graduate looking to build a career in mental health, psychology, therapy, counselling, education or SEND.
Pay and Contract: £90-110 per day PAYE, full-time, term-time only contract from September 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support across the school day.
- Help students develop confidence, resilience, emotional awareness and positive learning behaviours.
- Support pupils with SEMH, anxiety, emotional regulation, low confidence, behaviour needs and social communication difficulties.
- Work closely with the SENCO, Heads of Year, pastoral staff, teachers, families and external professionals.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduate in Psychology, Criminology, Counselling, Education or Mental Health.
- Excellent experience in supporting students (e.g., with SEND, mentoring, tutoring, youth work, care or mental health support) is highly desirable.
- Calm, patient, emotionally intelligent and committed to safeguarding.
- Reliable, proactive and confident in supporting young people with a range of emotional, behavioural and social needs.
- Able to build positive relationships, set clear boundaries and support students to make strong progress academically and personally.
