As a Maintenance Assistant in our Estates team, you’ll help keep critical hospital facilities safe, efficient, and ready to support patient care every day. Your work will directly contribute to an environment where healthcare professionals can deliver life‑changing services.
In this hands‑on role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining the hospital’s building fabric and infrastructure. From responding to repairs to supporting planned maintenance, your contribution helps ensure a safe, reliable, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues – making a meaningful difference to the community we serve.
What you’ll do as a Maintenance Assistant
- Carry out reactive repairs and general maintenance across building fabric and structure
- Support planned preventative maintenance activities to maintain efficiency and safety
- Accurately complete work orders and use maintenance systems to track tasks
- Identify and report faults, defects, and parts requirements to support timely resolution
- Work in line with all policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines
- Use the correct manual handling techniques and appropriate lifting equipment
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and hospital staff about work progress
Does this sound like you?
- Proven experience in a maintenance role working in a maintenance or facilities environment
- Good knowledge of general building services and maintenance practices
- Good communication skills with a strong customer‑focused approach
- The ability to work safely, follow procedures, and recognise your own limitations
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and support team objectives
Vetting and checks
This role requires a Basic DBS check, which will disclose any unspent convictions in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to help us identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
