About the post

We are expanding our Kinship Team within the Fostering Service and are seeking four Family Support Workers. The role provides direct support to children, young people and their kinship carers, working alongside social workers and partner agencies. Duties include delivering practical, emotional and parenting support, promoting effective parenting and contributing to positive outcomes for children who cannot live with their parents. The role is hands‑on and relationship‑based, working directly with families in homes and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, emotional and parenting support to children, young people and kinship carers.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers to stabilise and sustain kinship care arrangements.
  • Deliver support within families’ homes and communities.
  • Partner with colleagues across Children’s Social Care and partner agencies.

Requirements

  • Speak English to an appropriate standard.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • If you have lived overseas in the last five years, you must be able to obtain an overseas criminal records check.
  • Must possess the necessary legal documents, e.g. a valid visa; Barnsley Council cannot sponsor or hold a Home Office licence.
  • Compliance with pension regulations and other statutory requirements.
