Job Description
An excellent opportunity for a Senior Planner with a strong background in Construction or Civil Engineering. This successful candidate will be responsible for leading the planning and programming function throughout tender, pre-construction, and construction phases, ensuring the development and management of robust, achievable, and commercially focused project programmes.
Working closely with project teams, clients, consultants, supply chain partners, and other key stakeholders, the successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering high-quality planning solutions that support successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and programming function on selected projects throughout tender, pre-construction, and construction phases.
- Develop, maintain, review, and administer detailed project programmes, methodologies, planning reports, presentations, and associated deliverables.
- Establish, analyse, and monitor critical path activities, identifying risks, constraints, and opportunities that may impact programme delivery.
- Collaborate with project teams and supply chain partners to identify planning scope, key quantities, resource requirements, major constraints, and contractual obligations.
- Apply resource planning and resource levelling techniques to optimise programme performance.
- Present project programmes and sequencing information to internal and external stakeholders at both detailed and summary levels.
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements relating to programme submissions, updates, and reporting.
- Produce regular programme updates and progress reports, providing clear recommendations and mitigation strategies where necessary.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including statutory authorities, utility providers, planning authorities, consultants, and other third parties to incorporate their requirements into project programmes.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify, communicate, and escalate issues affecting programme delivery.
- Support project teams with planning-related advice throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to risk and opportunity management processes with a focus on programme performance and project delivery.
- Maintain a commercial focus, ensuring planning activities add value and support successful project outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and best practice standards.
Key Requirements
- Relevant construction industry experience within planning, project controls, engineering, or project delivery.
- Recognised qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous experience in a Senior Planner or Planner role within the construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, groundworks, or structures areas.
- Operational site experience as a Site Engineer, Site Agent, or similar would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of planning, programming, and progress monitoring techniques.
- Experience developing and managing project programmes throughout tender, pre-construction, and construction phases.
- Knowledge of risk and opportunity management as it relates to planning and programme delivery.
- Understanding of delay analysis, change management, and entitlement principles.
- Familiarity with construction methodologies, plant, equipment, and labour resource requirements.
- Strong understanding of tender documentation, contract documents, specifications, and project controls.
- In-depth knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract and their planning requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in planning and programming software, including Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject.
