Paediatric Allergy Clinical Nurse Specialist

Band 7, West London Children’s Healthcare (WLCH) – located at West Middlesex University Hospital.

Closing date: 29 June 2026.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage own patient cohort of children and young people with allergy and asthma.
  • Provide expert, evidence‑based care across acute, community and primary care settings.
  • Deliver and develop specialist allergy services, including nurse‑led clinics.
  • Educate patients, families and practice teams on self‑management and inhaler technique.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support colleagues through teaching, supervision and leadership.
  • Ensure safe prescribing, medication management and compliance with NHS standards.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and effective communication.
  • Engage in implementation of national and local asthma guidelines.

Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.

Qualifications and skills

  • Registered Children’s Nurse on the NMC register.
  • BSc in nursing.
  • Significant post‑registration experience working with children who have respiratory illnesses, allergies or asthma.
  • Level 3 Safeguarding training.
  • Sound knowledge of paediatric asthma care, including pathophysiology, management protocols and evidence‑based practice.
  • Understanding of child protection procedures and safeguarding.
  • Ability to deliver asthma education and self‑management support to children, young people and families.
  • Experience with NHS England Tier 3 – Asthma in Children and Young People.
  • Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and lead clinical workload.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Awareness of current NHS issues and governance & quality initiatives.
  • Knowledge of NHS governance, quality initiatives, and national clinical standards.
  • Completion of Foundations of Managing Asthma – Level 5 Diploma (or equivalent).
  • MSc in Advanced Practice or Respiratory Nursing (desirable).
  • Experience working in community settings, including schools, early years settings and patient homes.
  • Experience managing a specialist caseload, including complex, high‑risk, or severe asthma.
  • Participation in audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Relevant post‑registration accredited clinical course in advanced assessment.
  • Experience leading clinical workload and change initiatives.

Salary

£58,133 to £65,261 a year, pro rata per annum, including HCAS.
