Main duties of the job
- Professional for all aspects of own work and delegated work to staff, students and others, in line with HCPC, BDA and Trust Policy, ensuring compliance with national standards and implementation within the area.
- To work collaboratively with a variety of professionals ensuring management and treatment meet the holistic needs of patients, providing a well-coordinated care plan for specialism/setting.
- To participate in multi-disciplinary projects as agreed.
- To ensure staff have appropriate skills, training, supervision.
- To identify training and development needs.
- To be responsible for providing mentoring, clinical supervision and/or management of junior staff and Clinical Support Workers as agreed.
- To develop induction and/or preceptorship of staff.
Job responsibilities
- To work autonomously to provide a specialist service to designated specialism/setting within a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency context and inform and advise the care unit as to training or development needs.
- To independently triage, manage and prioritise own complex caseload providing specialist assessment, formulation, diagnosis, intervention and advice based on evidence‑based practice.
- To undertake, interpret, and act on complex information gathered from a range of sources, including instrumental investigations, diagnostic formal and informal assessments, and information from other agencies and professionals, using sound knowledge of evidence‑based practice, clinical reasoning skills and experience in applying relevant treatment approaches.
- To develop and provide specialist packages of care to individuals working as an integral part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
Person Specification
- Degree or equivalent post‑graduate qualification leading to registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Dietitian.
- Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
- HCPC Registered Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
- HCPC Registered Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Experience
- Working experience of assessing and managing a complex caseload of adults with dietetic specific needs in specialist area of forensics and/or mental health.
- Knowledge of Risk Assessment and ability to ensure effective risk management strategies within specialism.
- Experience of effective multi‑disciplinary/agency working.
- Experience of delivering different learning and development opportunities for staff teams.
- Experience in evaluation/audit as part of profession/multi‑professional team.
- Experience of the clinical and professional development of others including students.
- Experience of leading/managing project work.
- Experience of working with eating disorders and disordered eating.
- Experience of working with food services.
- Experience of weight management within a mental health setting.
- Experience of research, audit, service evaluation and/or quality improvement projects – setting up, evaluating, reporting and application.
- Identifies clinical risks and carries out MDT/Trust Risk assessments and formulation for individuals, groups or services highlighting needs.
- Experience of collaboration across teams, services, and other stakeholders outside of the Trust.
Knowledge
- Experience of managing complex cases including artificial nutrition.
- Knowledge of eating disorders/mental health and NG tube feeding.
- Experience of managing refeeding syndrome.
- Applied knowledge of risk assessment within field of clinical practice.
- Knowledge of National Policy and guidance.
