Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) – Aseptic Services

Location: 22 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW – Salary: Band 3 NHS AFC equivalent – Type: Permanent / Full‑time – Hours: 37.5 per week (Monday to Friday with occasional weekends and bank holidays).

The role: Support Aseptic Services in the Pharmacy Department by safely, accurately and timely preparing aseptic compounds. Deliver high‑quality services, maintaining compliance with SOPs, GMP, and national guidelines.

Key Duties

  • Assist in aseptic preparation and dispensing of cytotoxic, hazardous, and monoclonal products according to SOPs and GMP
  • Assemble compounding trays, perform in‑process checks, and assemble necessary consumables and labels
  • Prioritise workload and communicate with senior staff to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Provide daily top‑up services to the Aseptic Services Unit and manage sundries orders
  • Charge aseptically prepared products accurately and in a timely manner
  • Participate in environmental monitoring, cleaning, and QA activities within the unit
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute best practice in aseptic services
  • Manage stock, including ordering, storage, expiry checking, stock rotation and accurate record‑keeping using pharmacy systems
  • Receive, unpack and store medicines and consumables, documenting and quarantine where required
  • Assist in stock takes and maintain accurate records

Essential Skills and Experience

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Services (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a hospital pharmacy within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in aseptic preparation and dispensing
  • Knowledge of GMP
  • Experience in stock management, stock rotation and expiry checks
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and respond to changing demands
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High attention to detail and good numeracy
  • Computer literacy, including pharmacy systems

Desirable

  • Experience with BD Cato or gravimetric compounding
  • Experience using Meditech or Mosaiq systems
  • Experience in QA and environmental monitoring
  • Experience training or supervising staff
