Contract: Full-time, 37 hours per week or Part time, 18.5 hours per week (non-uniform roles)
Salary: Grade J (FT – £36,363 – £39,152; PT – £18,181 – £19,576)
Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service is looking for a dedicated and professional Driving Instructor (Driver Trainer) to join our Training and Development team. This role will shape the skills and confidence of our operational workforce, ensuring drivers are equipped to respond safely, effectively and professionally in high-pressure environments.
About The Role
As a Driving Instructor, you will deliver initial and refresher driver training across a wide range of service vehicles, ensuring all drivers meet statutory, operational and safety requirements while developing their confidence and capability on the road. You will also influence behaviour, build capability and embed a culture of safety and excellence across the Service.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deliver practical and theoretical driver training across all vehicle categories
- Train and assess staff to become Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) and Emergency Response drivers
- Monitor and assess driving standards, providing clear, constructive feedback
- Design and develop driver training programmes and courses
- Maintain accurate training records in line with legislation and awarding body requirements
- Provide specialist vehicle and equipment training
- Ensure all training is delivered in line with health and safety standards and best practice
- Support continuous improvement by advising on driver training, legislation and operational practice
Key Requirements
- A full, clean UK driving licence including categories B, B+E, C, D1, D1+E (held for a minimum of 3 years)
- DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) or working towards this
- Experience driving a range of vehicles, including LGVs
- An assessor qualification (or equivalent) in competence assessment
- Strong understanding of vehicle and driving legislation
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
