Job Description:

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a growing business on the appointment of a Health & Safety Officer.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will take ownership of day-to-day Health & Safety activities across the site, ensuring standards are maintained and continuously improved. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys engaging with teams, influencing behaviours, and making a tangible impact on workplace safety.

In your new role:

  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and workplace inspections to identify and control hazards
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, implementing effective corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate Health & Safety records, reports, and documentation
  • Develop and coordinate Health & Safety training programmes and maintain training matrices
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including fire safety and first aid arrangements
  • Review and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation
  • Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and communication across all levels
  • Monitor PPE compliance and ensure appropriate safety equipment is available
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance Health & Safety performance
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure safe working practices are embedded throughout the business

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
  • Experience within a similar Health & Safety role
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proactive approach with the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don’t worry if you don’t):

  • Experience within manufacturing, warehousing, or logistics environments
  • Previous involvement in developing training programmes
  • Experience supporting emergency preparedness and fire safety activities
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and behavioural safety principles
