An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to join a successful and growing engineering/manufacturing business. This is a key leadership role with a clear pathway to progress into a Managing Director position.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, driving operational excellence, improving profitability, and supporting the long-term strategic growth of the business. This role combines hands-on operational management with senior leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple departments.
  • Ensure operational processes are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Monitor operational costs, margins, and overall business profitability.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop departmental managers and wider teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Support recruitment, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery.
  • Develop, monitor, and improve key operational performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Support new product introduction and process development projects.
  • Oversee supply chain performance, supplier relationships, and delivery effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all operational functions.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and health & safety legislation.

About You

You will be an experienced operational leader with a strong background in manufacturing or engineering environments and a proven track record of delivering operational and financial results.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or significant equivalent leadership experience.
  • Extensive senior management experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of manufacturing and engineering processes.
  • Demonstrable experience achieving operational, financial, and strategic objectives.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, including AS9100 and/or ISO 9001.
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
  • Extensive experience using and developing ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
