Contract and Salary
£60,000 – £70,000 per annum, Permanent, Full‑time (35 hours per week). Standard working hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. Location: Somerset House, London (flexible and hybrid working encouraged).
Role Overview
This role heads the Project Finance team, leading financial management across Blue Marine’s growing portfolio. It oversees the full financial journey of project partners, from due diligence and legal agreements to oversight and accurate reporting, while building partner capacity for greater conservation impact.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and manage the Project Finance team, setting priorities and effective ways of working.
- Direct the strategic direction of the function in line with portfolio growth.
- Maintain high‑level oversight of project budgets, donor requirements, financial risks and reporting obligations.
- Oversee end‑to‑end financial journeys of partners, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Deliver high‑quality, timely project reporting, budget monitoring, audit evidence and donor compliance.
- Provide insight, challenge and analysis to support strategic decisions and funding proposals.
- Build operational capacity of international partners, including travel as required.
- Champion practical improvements to systems and processes, fostering continuous improvement.
- Deliver hands‑on support during peak reporting periods while maintaining senior oversight.
- Represent Finance with credibility and integrity across Blue Marine and with funders.
- Deputise for the Director of Finance, Operations and Governance where appropriate.
- Contribute to wider organisational priorities as a senior management team member.

Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Significant senior experience in project, programme or commercial finance, managing complex budgets, reporting and risk.
- Strong track record overseeing large, complex portfolios, including audit evidence, donor compliance and risk management.
- Experience improving finance systems, reporting tools or organisational processes during growth or change.
- Deep understanding of financial controls, policies and processes with sound judgement.
- Experience working with external partners to enhance financial processes and operational effectiveness.
- Leadership and development of high‑performing teams, setting clear priorities and improving ways of working.
- Confident communication, building credibility and constructive relationships with colleagues, funders and partners.
- Highly organised, managing competing deadlines and maintaining accuracy in a fast‑moving environment.
Desired
- Qualified accountant or equivalent senior‑level financial experience.
- Experience with Microsoft‑based systems, including Power Platform tools such as Power BI.
- Ability to bring structure, clarity and financial discipline to complex or evolving organisations.
- Experience working with international partners across different legal, operational or cultural contexts.
- Interest in the environmental, conservation or charitable sector.
