Overview

You will be part of our national Building Design Practice, collaborating with top‐tier engineers across the UK and global teams via our Technology Centre. Work on high‑impact, multi‑sector projects—from government campuses and SEND colleges to advanced defence facilities and university frameworks.

  • Work within our award‑winning Building Services Engineering team—winners of the CIBSE Building Performance Consultancy (300+ employees) 2025.
  • Join a collaborative national practice with designers across the UK and the Global Technology Centre.
  • Contribute to a range of high‑profile, diverse projects.
  • Play a key role in advancing energy efficiency, air quality improvement, and decarbonisation.

Location: Glasgow and Edinburgh

Your role

  • Lead and deliver electrical building services designs (power, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, lifts, lightning protection, etc.) from concept to detailed design.
  • Demonstrate strong team‑leading abilities, proven work‑winning skills, solid commercial awareness, and confidence in client‑facing environments.
  • Produce detailed calculations using tools such as Amtech, Dialux/Relux, Excel.
  • Prepare technical specifications, design reports, and client presentations.
  • Work with our BIM team—apply your working knowledge of Revit for modelling and drawings.
  • Attend and represent AtkinsRéalis in client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Undertake site surveys, inspections, and commissioning reviews.
  • Manage your own workload, ensuring excellence in delivery, time, and budget.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers as part of a growing team.

About You

  • Strong experience in Building Services Engineering with a passion for high‑quality building design.
  • Curious, innovative, and eager to explore new ways of working.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering / Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
  • Working towards or holding Chartered status (IET, CIBSE or equivalent).
  • Skilled in industry software: Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, Microsoft tools; high‑Voltage design knowledge is a bonus.
  • Solid understanding of UK technical standards and codes.
  • Familiar with energy reduction strategies, decarbonisation, and energy & carbon analytics.
  • Experience with commissioning, performance evaluation, and design for measurement & verification.
