An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Service at ESNEFT for an experienced and motivated Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide maternity cover for 22.5 hours per week for 12 months.
This Role Is Open To Both Nurses And Physiotherapists
The Inpatient Respiratory Team is a dynamic multidisciplinary team comprising of nurses and allied health professionals who deliver a comprehensive respiratory service across the Trust. The team provides specialist assessment, management and advice to patients with COPD, while supporting ward teams and contributing to service development and education.
You will work as part of the specialist respiratory team, with a particular focus on the management of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and home oxygen services. You will provide expert clinical assessment and timely review of inpatients admitted COPD, ensuring evidence-based management in line with local and national guidelines.
In addition, you will contribute to the education and development of colleagues and students, promoting excellence in respiratory care and supporting the wider strategic objectives of the Respiratory Service and ESNEFT.
- Using the Trust’s electronic patient record system (EPIC) to identify and review patients admitted with COPD and other relevant respiratory conditions, including recommending transfer to appropriate specialist areas such as Shotley Ward or ARCU where indicated.
- Undertaking specialist clinical assessment and providing expert advice on the management of COPD exacerbations.
- Optimising COPD medications, including inhaler therapies, in accordance with Trust formulary and current best practice guidance.
- Assessing patients for Home oxygen, ensuring practice is aligned with Trust policies and national guidance.
- Referring patients to appropriate support services, including pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation and community respiratory services.
- Working collaboratively with the Community Respiratory Team to facilitate safe and effective discharge planning, including support through the virtual ward and early supported discharge pathways.
- Contributing to national audit requirements through accurate and timely data collection and submission.
- Providing education, training and clinical support to nursing staff, medical colleagues, students and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Supporting service improvement initiatives and contributing to the ongoing development of respiratory services across the Trust.
