Lead Nurse – Theatres Pre-assessment and Pain services

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic senior nurse to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as a Lead Nurse for Theatres, Pre-Assessment and Pain Services.

This is a pivotal leadership role within a large, complex and high-performing directorate, where you will provide visible clinical, operational, and managerial leadership, supporting the Head Nurse to ensure the safe, efficient and effective delivery of services across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the wider leadership team to support the day-to-day operational management of services, ensuring safe, responsive and effective patient pathways.
• Oversee workforce deployment, safe staffing, theatre utilisation, patient flow and list efficiency, alongside pre‑assessment capacity and surgical readiness.
• Ensure agreed systems and processes consistently provide safe, effective, high‑quality patient care and embed a culture of improvement, focusing on the Trust’s harm‑free indicators, measuring practice and using variations in the data to develop local improvement projects.
• Ensure local plans support all clinical quality external accreditation, for Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards, Safety Thermometer, Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN), Quality Accounts, NHS Litigation Authority.
• Lead workforce planning, professional development, clinical leadership, recruitment and retention to reduce turnover, ensuring timely recruitment to maintain vacancy factor targets and reduce reliance on temporary staffing.
• Contribute to the work of the Trust through publications, presentations at conferences and internal and external networking.
