This role supports the Visitor Experience Manager in ensuring everything runs smoothly in a complex and lively visitor business.

What it’s like to work here

Tredegar House is a vibrant site on the edge of Newport, part of the South East Wales portfolio. With 100,000 visitors each year to the House and formal gardens, and 500,000 into the parkland, we are busy throughout the year with a strong and varied programme. We are excited about the next few years and strive to build our offer and engage with the public in new ways. Across the site, from Gardeners to House Hosts, our passion is obvious.

Tredegar House has always been a colourful place, and its stories bring the site to life. For more than 500 years it was home to the Morgan family, whose lives impacted the population of south‑east Wales socially, economically and politically. In 1951 it became a school, in the 1970s a historic house museum, and in 2012 came under National Trust management.

What you’ll be doing

As a key member of the Visitor Experience team, you will focus on achieving the highest standards of presentation and service, helping everything run smoothly during projects, events, active conservation work, and busy school holidays. You will devise and run events and activities, create interpretive displays, and find innovative ways to bring the place and its stories to life for all visitors. You will have opportunities to engage visitors, introduce them to Tredegar House, and manage and supervise volunteers when required.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • Experienced in devising and running activities that inspire and engage people
  • Skilled at communicating and building good working relationships with team members and others
  • Aware of ways to interpret precious collections of art and objects for a wide variety of audiences
  • Well‑organised, able to work at pace, and keep to time
  • Confident in dealing with all kinds of people in all situations
  • Flexible, yet focused on delivering high‑quality customer service
  • Experienced in working with and supervising volunteers
