About the role
We’re looking for an Industrial Safety Engineer to join our team at Heysham 2 Power Station. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in keeping people safe while helping to shape and strengthen our positive safety culture.

In this role, you’ll act as a trusted safety expert—providing guidance, supporting teams across the station, and helping us continuously improve how we manage industrial safety. You’ll work closely with colleagues at all levels to ensure we meet both company and regulatory expectations, while also driving meaningful, lasting improvements.
Pay, benefits and culture
The salary range offered is £47,513 to £99,929, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement.
The starting salary will be within £47,513 to £84,595, dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences, and qualifications.

What you’ll be doing
You’ll contribute to a wide range of activities:
- Supporting robust risk identification and management processes
- Promoting and embedding a positive, proactive safety culture
- Monitoring and reporting on safety performance, identifying trends and recommending improvements
- Reviewing compliance with safety arrangements and suggesting enhancements
- Supporting incident investigations to identify and address root causes
- Helping shape and deliver safety training and awareness initiatives
- Spending time in the field to engage with teams and maintain a strong safety presence
In addition, you’ll:
- Provide expert advice to teams and leaders across the station
- Collaborate with regulators and external organisations
- Support development of company-wide safety standards and best practice
- Contribute to fleet-wide improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing
- Design and deliver engaging safety campaigns
Who you are
We’re interested in people who are passionate about safety and making a difference. You don’t need to tick every box—if you bring relevant experience or transferable skills, we’d still love to hear from you.
Ideally you’ll have:
- A relevant HNC (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting or improving safety culture on a large industrial site
- Knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Understanding of industrial safety risks and how to manage them effectively
- Experience with auditing, monitoring, or safety management systems
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to positively challenge and influence others
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships
Beneficial but not essential: NEBOSH Certificate or similar qualification.

Requirements for appointment
To be appointed, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC), which will ordinarily require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
