Overview of the role
Mott MacDonald is one of the global leaders advising a broad range of clients on the planning, design, and construction of coastal and offshore infrastructure across a variety of sizes and types. As a Principal Coastal Engineer on the Ports, Coastal and Offshore (PCO) team, you will influence the success of our maritime projects by contributing to outcomes that exceed our clients’ expectations.You will be responsible for economic and feasibility assessments, coastal process, metocean and hydrodynamic investigations, detailed design, and construction documentation. Sectors include UK and international coastal zone management, offshore renewables and cables, and tidal power.Depending on your skills, you may also take on project‑management responsibilities such as resourcing, programming, commercial and contract matters, risk and quality oversight. You will provide input to the contract procurement process, prepare tender documents, specifications, BOQs, and construction drawings, and manage the tender process through to contract award. You will also support new business development initiatives and tender submissions to drive growth of the PCO account.
Candidate specification
Essential
- A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical equivalent
- Experience working in Coastal Engineering within a consultancy environment
- Strong written communication skills and ability to write reports and deliver presentations
- Demonstrated experience delivering coastal engineering projects using innovative and digitally driven techniques
- Experience in business development, including client liaison and bid preparation
- Chartered with a relevant professional institution such as ICE, IStructE, CIWEM, or equivalent working experience
- Demonstrated project leadership
Desirable
- Willingness to travel overseas for project assignments when required
- Comfortable networking and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams for project delivery and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
