Your team: The Times Product Design team is a collaborative group of around twelve designers working across core reading experiences, subscriber journeys, and the essential editorial tools our newsroom uses every day. We design close to the action, sitting directly alongside editorial, product, engineering, and data teams to build digital experiences trusted by millions of readers. Your role: As a Senior Product Designer, you will lead a meaningful area of our digital ecosystem, shaping its product direction alongside engineering and product management partners. You will champion high design standards and act as a trusted advisor whom leadership leans on to make critical product decisions. Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end design strategy for a defined product area, collaborating closely with cross‑functional partners from early conceptual thinking through to final shipping.
- Set an exceptional standard for interaction design, visual execution, and prototyping, serving as a quality benchmark for the wider team.
- Collaborate with user researchers to frame critical insights and seamlessly translate reader feedback into impactful product decisions.
- Mentor less senior designers through regular design critiques and 1:1 sessions to support their professional growth and build team capabilities.
- Contribute to our shared design system, shaping patterns that other teams use and continuously pushing our design practice forward.
Qualifications
- A comprehensive portfolio of shipped digital product work at scale, demonstrating a deep understanding of user‑centered design.
- Proven experience leading the design strategy for a distinct product area and measurably improving user outcomes.
- Strong research instincts, with a clear understanding of what to test, when, and why, alongside a history of partnering effectively with user researchers.
- Demonstrated mentorship experience, whether formal or informal, showing a passion for helping other designers develop their craft.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder alignment skills, with the ability to confidently hold your ground and bring editors, product directors, and engineers along on the journey.
- Active curiosity regarding emerging tools like AI and their application in day‑to‑day workflows, backed by genuine exploration and experimentation.
