Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP – North Wing Main Theatres. We are currently offering an excellent developmental opportunity for a qualified scrub nurse/Odp to join our team in North Wing Main Theatres. This opportunity will allow you to work alongside our excellent team within Theatres and develop your skills in various specialities.

We want you to be the best you can be and would support you in achieving your goals through our in‑house training programs and tertiary study at our affiliated universities. Our TAP (Theatres, Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine) Academy aims to develop a team of practitioners, with knowledge and skills to care for patients, recognising the commitments of our staff and rewarding achievements.

Training and support is provided whilst we develop your existing skills and knowledge in each aspect of the Perioperative environment.

Main duties of the job

If you are an experienced Scrub Nurse staff looking to further develop your career and expand your skills within a range of clinical specialities, this may be the area for you. Our long history of cutting edge surgery means that you could be involved in some of the world’s most advanced procedures.

We are looking for nurses who have experience in a range of specialities including Gynae Oncology, General Surgery, Robotic Surgery and Orthopaedic Trauma.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, safe and effective nursing care within the operating theatre environment
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team supporting elective and emergency surgery
  • Maintain aseptic technique and comply with infection prevention and control policies
  • Prepare theatre environments, equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures
  • Assist surgeons and anaesthetists, anticipating clinical needs during procedures
  • Complete accurate documentation, including WHO surgical safety checklists
  • Ensure safe management of instruments, swab counts, equipment and medications
  • Contribute to a safe, efficient and well‑organised theatre service
  • Support students, new staff and contribute to a positive learning environment
  • Participate in audit, quality improvement and service development activities
  • Maintain NMC registration and adhere to Trust policies and professional standards
  • Engage in mandatory training, appraisal and ongoing professional development
  • Work flexibly, including on‑call duties, weekends and nights as required by the service

Qualifications

  • NMC Level one Registration or Recognised qualification in Operating Department Practice Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • SSSA&P training

Experience

  • Recent experience in Theatre and Anaesthetics
  • Experience of working on own and in a team

Skills

  • Able to assess, plan, implement & evaluate programmes of care
  • Able to work as an effective team member
  • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to maintain clear and legible documentation
