Principal Lawyer – City of London

Salary: £59,060 – £66,670 per annum inclusive of London Weighting. Market Forces Supplement up to £10,898.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9:15am – 5:00pm.

Basis: Full-time, Permanent. Workplace category: Hybrid.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Public and Corporate Law Division of the Comptroller & City Solicitor’s Department. The Division provides legal advice across a broad spectrum of the City’s activities, including local government law, administrative and constitutional law, planning and highways law, charities and trusts, company law, information law, electoral law, and open‑space regulation. It also offers advice to elected members and external organisations such as London councils.

Qualifications: The successful applicant will be a qualified Barrister, Solicitor or Legal Executive with significant post‑qualification experience in local government law or planning and highways law, and experience in, or a willingness to acquire, expertise in other relevant areas. The role requires computer literacy, excellent research and communication skills, and the ability to provide clear and pragmatic advice at pace.
