Overview
A well established and respected manufacturing business is looking to recruit a Manufacturing Manager/Team Leader to bolster their highly skilled and capable workforce. The position is a permanent role from day one, subject to interview process. The role is a boots on ground, day‑shift position (39 hours per week, Monday to Friday) with no remote working. The team leader will act as a cell leader, managing day‑to‑day operations within their area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
Operational Control: Support the internal customer (Manufacturing Manager) by aligning with shared objectives on EHS, Quality, Cost and Delivery, and participating in the Operational Control model. Conduct the daily departmental walk‑the‑floor routine, engage with the team and address issues promptly. Own the department’s scheduling board and work with the production coordinator to manage the scheduling list. Conduct daily Hazard Spotting to meet set targets and maintain a safe working environment. Analyse Key Performance Indicators and data collection systems to drive improvement, presenting results in SQCDP metrics at the Daily Ops Meeting. Monitor team performance, deliver real‑time feedback, facilitate skill development and coaching. Take ownership of problems assigned for resolution in the Daily Operations meeting, presenting daily production metrics, quality issues, reporting on departmental EHS, and capacity planning. Lead Job Safety Observations and provide technical/process solutions to EHS problems. Apply problem‑solving methodologies to root‑cause operational performance issues, especially process capability and quality problems. Supervise team members day‑to‑day, ensuring adherence to work instructions and aerospace standards, acting as first point of contact for technical issues, and escalating critical problems. Maintain a monthly capability planner and organise the department based on current skill levels.
General Responsibilities: Manage throughput in priority order to deliver the OTIF target. Generate and review data to ensure planned times are accurate and that team members complete work within allocated time, taking reasonable action where required. Maintain an efficient system to control the maintenance, storage and replenishment of tooling. Liaise with management on staffing levels and workload. Allocate work according to the priorities defined by the scheduling lists. Administer people‑related procedures, including timely completion of recruitment, man‑hour processing, absence management, performance management, onboarding and off‑boarding. Maintain clear shift communication and documentation to ensure smooth handovers and operational continuity. Work with the Manufacturing Engineer and technicians to resolve quality issues and implement preventive measures in line with company processes. Oversee technical leads to provide adequate training per defined training plans. Collaborate with Human Resources to sustain an ethical working environment that adheres to company policies.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
IT Skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Javelin Central Database.
- Supervisory / Management experience
- Preferred: 5 years experience managing teams in an engineering environment (aerospace highly preferential but not essential)
- Preferred: 3 years of supervisory experience
- Preferred: 6 direct reports
- Machine‑shop supervisory experience advantageous but not essential
- Previous experience in a Production Manager role preferred but not essential
General employee competences: Problem solving, basic project management, teamwork.
Academic achievements: C or above in English and Maths at GCSE (or equivalent).
Professional qualifications: Completed apprenticeship in an engineering discipline is essential.
