Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist

The Gynaecological Oncology Department at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ South‑East London Cancer Centre is looking for a full‑time permanent Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist. The post holder will provide specialist Gynaecological Oncology services at both Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites, support the four existing full‑time consultants and deliver direct care for patients locally and those referred from the South East London Cancer Network. In addition, the role will involve running cancer diagnostic services, participation in teaching and research, and contributing to the department’s clinical governance.
About the Department
The department offers tertiary gynaecological oncology surgery for a 2.1 million‑person catchment area, unit‑level diagnosis and management of women with gynaecological malignancy, and diagnostic and therapeutic colposcopy. It is the central hub of the South East London gynaecological cancer network and links to King’s College University and the London & KSS deaneries for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

- Multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
- On‑call duties (mid‑week and weekend rota)
- Teaching and training sessions
Qualifications
Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register as a Sub‑Specialist in Gynaecological Oncology and have experience in advanced robotic surgery within the field.
Clinical Experience
- RCOG accredited sub‑specialty training in Gynaecological Oncology
- Clinical core training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to a UK CCT
- BSCCP accreditation
- Diagnostic procedures: outpatient operative hysteroscopy, LLETZ, cervical & vulval biopsy
- Robotic surgery in Gynaecological Oncology
- Benign laparoscopic and complex gynaecological surgery
- Exposure to ultra‑radical surgery in Gynaecological Oncology
Professional Criteria
- Full UK GMC registration and Licence to Practice
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within six months of the application date as a Sub‑Specialist in Gynaecological Oncology
- Additional postgraduate qualifications (MD, PhD, MSc, etc.) in Gynaecology
Clinical Skills
- Evidence of multidisciplinary practice
- Management of all gynaecological cancers referred to the cancer centre
- Collaboration with other specialties for radical surgery
- Management of two‑week‑wait cancer diagnostic clinics and outpatient ambulatory diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients, relatives and healthcare teams
- Management of gynaecological emergencies
- Training in sentinel lymph node mapping for gynaecological cancers
Audit Management & IT
- Understanding of audit principles and service improvement
- Experience in service innovation and development
- Management of clinical governance targets (e.g., CNST)
- Achievement of quality targets (e.g., CQIN, KC65)
Research, Teaching and Leadership
- Teaching experience at undergraduate, postgraduate and junior levels
- Research with publications in peer‑reviewed journals
- Contribution to clinical trials and higher research degrees (PhD or equivalent)
- Mentoring and grant application experience
- Leadership and decision‑making capabilities
- Team management, performance management and staff development
- Financial management and budgeting knowledge
- Commitment to service innovation

Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 per annum ex London Zone.
