About the Role

Drive data‑driven and innovative growth decisions, lead and grow the team in delivering value to our customers by developing the Wise product within Europe.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high‑performance, scalable tools and services utilizing Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, cloud technologies.
• Build account‑level features (tax payments, savings products) for European markets.
• Collaborate with product managers to develop business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and provide technical guidance.
• Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy for the Regional Expansion Tribe.
• Contribute to engineering culture through knowledge sharing and best practices.
• Work with the product team on customer interviews, gather quantitative and qualitative data to better understand our customers and build solutions.
• Document and present data‑driven results to product stakeholders, proposing strategies aligned with risk appetite and business objectives.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging systems such as Kafka.
• Experience working with relational databases, SQL query optimization, schema design.
• Strong product mindset, prioritizing customer needs and making data‑driven decisions.
• Excellent communication skills and ownership to drive cross‑team projects.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross‑team efforts.
• Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones delivering customer value.
• Experience with design and architecture patterns, passion for clean, performant, well‑tested code.
• Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement.
• Adherence to best coding practices, continuous delivery, code reviews.
• Proven track record of leading technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers.
