LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY WITH AN INTEREST IN CONGENITAL HYPERINSULINISM (CHI) – 7PA
The Endocrinology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital would like to announce an exciting opportunity for a 12-month fixed term locum Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology post with an interest in Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI).
Tertiary training in CHI is desirable but not essential, although a demonstrated interest in beta cell physiology is an advantage. The successful candidate will spend 3PA of their time supporting the CHI service whilst receiving weekly timetabled training in CHI from the lead CHI consultant to develop high level skills and expertise in managing children with CHI. The endocrine department has a strong focus on research and the post-holder will take an active role in audit, clinical governance, teaching and research, including acting as Sub-Investigator for clinical trials in CHI.
The remaining 4PA will be spent within the general endocrine service developing a general endocrine portfolio. The post holder will have no initial on call but will be expected to participate in the CHI consultant daytime rota supporting the attending team with advice and management of patients with CHI within the Hospital and provide advice to outside Hospitals.
Responsibilities
- Run a weekly Congenital Hyperinsulinism clinic and support the CHI service.
- Provide input into the national Congenital Hyperinsulinism specialist commissioning meeting.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, supervision, teaching and research within Endocrinology.
- Support research programmes in Congenital Hyperinsulinism and attend conferences on a rotational basis.
- Manage study and annual leave in accordance with Trust policy.
Qualifications
- Specialist registration for General Paediatrics and eligible for specialist registration in Paediatric Endocrinology.
- Current CCT or equivalent, or within 6 months of award of CCT at interview.
- Eligibility for GMC registration and full MRCPCH or equivalent.
- Higher degree (MD/PhD) desirable.
- Experience in Paediatric Endocrinology and teaching, audit, research.
- Leadership, management and clinical trial recruitment experience desirable.

Salary and Contract
Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year pro rata, per annum.
Contract: Locum, 12 months, part‑time.
