Are you interested in working with the latest cloud computing technologies and becoming a core part of the largest cloud infrastructure on the planet? AWS is seeking a Systems Engineer to build and operate services for our customers, automate service operations and deployment methods, and provide mentoring for junior team members. You will work in a large-scale, high availability environment, building and operating critical Cryptography, Access and Identity services.
This exciting role is designed for someone with a strong engineering background and a passion for driving efficiency, quality, and process improvements within our service operations. You will have the opportunity to utilize AI tooling and build solutions that automate away manual tasks.
As a Systems Engineer at Amazon you will utilize your Linux skills to troubleshoot, innovate fixes and workarounds, keep software up-to-date, and provide data and metrics that help manage the capacity and efficiency of our services. You will draw on your networking knowledge to identify and troubleshoot network connectivity issues. Our roles enable engineers to develop a broad range of skills and to take ownership across a complex technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, build, deploy, operate, sustain, and grow services in cloud production environments.
- Utilize trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements.
- Help develop and refine procedures used by the team and internal customers.
- Deal with new and ambiguous problem domains while consistently delivering customer‑impacting change.
- Consult with senior engineers and investigate root causes of customer issues and metric trends.
- Implement operational excellence best practices and automate manual processes.
A Day in the Life
On a typical day, engineers build infrastructure and services for customers, dive deep into understanding the root cause of issues, investigate why metrics trend the wrong way, and consult with senior engineers. The team strives to make out‑of‑hours support painless by implementing best practices and automation.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in site reliability engineering, systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration.
- Experience working with Linux.
- Experience in systems engineering.
- Experience with one of Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, or Shell.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking protocols such as HTTP and DNS.
- Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens and reviewing scripting changes for maintainability, scalability, and security.
- Experience working in a 24/7 production environment.
- Experience with service‑oriented architecture and web services.
