Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Product Security Engineer to join the team in Derby or Bristol. As a Product Security Engineer, you will be responsible for securing a range of Rolls‑Royce products against an ever‑evolving range of security threats (cyber, supply chain, etc.). You may be involved at any stage of a project life cycle from concept development, through design, integration, testing, final production release, and support.
You will typically work in cross‑functional project teams, collaborating with colleagues in other branches of engineering, and you will play an important role in addressing complex technological challenges in flagship Rolls‑Royce programmes. You will be encouraged to further develop and leverage your skills in Systems Security Engineering and help grow the company’s capability in this pivotal area.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the Secure Cyber Resilient Engineering (SCRE) of our products, applying technical knowledge and providing direction throughout the product lifecycle: requirements, design, build, test, production, operations, and support.
- Lead the development, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of security policies, procedures, guidelines, tools and training.
- Lead a small group of individuals or projects in this domain, providing technical leadership to teams or projects and influencing through functional knowledge.
- Collaborate with government, customers, suppliers, and industry experts to meet customer mission, business, and system security requirements.
- Develop and update systems security and resilience best practices, and disseminate techniques, policies, procedures, and knowledge across the business.
- Communicate effectively across multiple business functions (software, hardware, maintenance, manufacturing, corporate).
Required Qualifications
- Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Software, Controls, Systems, Cybersecurity or a related discipline and 2+ years of experience in a relevant engineering environment.
- Alternative: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with 0+ years of experience.
- Preferable: JD/PhD and 3+ years of systems security engineering on real‑time cyber‑physical embedded systems (e.g., aviation systems, software‑defined vehicles, medical devices, weapons systems).
- Or 4+ years in a related engineering role (systems engineering, software engineering, electronics engineering, manufacturing engineering).
- Strong systems thinking and ability to understand complex system boundaries, interactions, and interdependencies across multiple abstraction layers.
- Deep knowledge of embedded systems and ability to develop, implement, and secure cyber‑physical systems.
- Experience or interest in cybersecurity and cyber threats, including secure product design, intrusion detection, digital forensics, system recovery, risk assessment tools, and the development of security solutions, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Knowledge of systems security policies and standards (RMF, NIST SP 800‑160, DO‑326, DoDI 5000.83).
- Excellent communication skills: ability to influence without authority and explain complex ideas simply and clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
