Public Health Corporate Services Officer
Working within a small team, the postholder will support continuity and consistency in the delivery of essential corporate processes across Public Health.
The Public Health Corporate Services Officer will play a key role in strengthening the capacity and resilience of the Public Health Corporate Services team. The postholder will support the effective delivery of governance, digital and financial functions, as well as risk management, learning and development, and performance management across all Public Health portfolios, ensuring robust systems, processes and oversight are in place.
The postholder will lead and coordinate key areas including governance tracking, ethics approvals, directory management and internal compliance, while supporting strategic planning, reporting and programme delivery. The role will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of governance, enabling informed decision‑making, and ensuring Public Health services are delivered efficiently within established frameworks.
Main duties of the job
Ensure the smooth running of the end‑to‑end decision‑making process for the Public Health Research and Evaluation Ethics Committee ensuring adherence to required standards and timelines.
Lead the management and maintenance of key governance systems, including the Public Health Governance Tracker, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance.
Take responsibility for the management and ongoing development of the Herts Directory on behalf of Public Health.
Promote compliance with Public Health governance processes, policies and procedures through regular communication and engagement with the Public Health teams.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships, particularly with senior leadership and Executive Support colleagues
- Apply in-depth organisational knowledge to support informed and effective decision‑making across governance structures.

Qualifications
- A recognised vocational qualification or equivalent.
- Broad experience in this area or may be of graduate entry level with sound practical experience.
Experience
- Significant practical experience gained through working in a similar area, demonstrating a proactive, high‑quality approach to supporting corporate services.
- Understanding of the organisation’s political environment.
- Understanding of the organisation’s corporate plan and key responsibilities.
- Experience of working in a Public Health team.
- The ability to work independently, taking ownership of tasks, following through on commitments, and maintaining momentum to meet tight deadlines.
- Experience of working in a fast‑paced environment, managing multiple complex schedules and conflicting priorities, with attention to detail to deliver accurate record‑keeping and robust governance processes.
- Experience of building professional and effective working relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organisation.
- A demonstrable passion for organisational effectiveness, good governance, and continuous improvement.
- Drive, enthusiasm, and a commitment to rapid learning to develop strong governance expertise.
- Transferable skills such as coordination, stakeholder engagement, high‑quality organisational skills, or managing complex information, even if gained outside a formal governance role.
- Previous experience of contributing to, coordinating, or supporting projects, demonstrating an ability to manage timelines, track progress, and work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
