Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychological Therapist
12-Month Fixed-Term / Secondment Maternity Cover Opportunity (30 Hours per Week, 0.8 WTE) Exeter Core Community Teams
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified psychologist, psychotherapist, or psychological therapist to join the Exeter Core Community Teams on a 12-month fixed-term contract or secondment to provide maternity cover, working 30 hours per week (0.8 WTE).
The successful candidate will provide psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based psychological therapies for adults presenting with a broad range of mental health difficulties, and will support the development of psychologically informed practice through supervision, consultation, reflective practice, training, and joint working with colleagues.
Applicants must be
- Qualified Clinical Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society, or Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist/ Psychological Therapist
- Registered with HCPC/UKCP/Other specialist regulatory body.
- Hold a relevant qualification at Master’s level or above.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide a Clinical/Counselling Psychology or Psychotherapy service to people referred to the service as a key component of services provided by Devon Partnership Trust.
- Provide local clinical leadership, coordination and supervision for trainees and volunteers employed by or attached to the psychology service, under the general direction and supervision of the Professional Lead.
- Carry a specialist caseload of clients, and provide advice and consultancy to patients, family members, carers and professionals.
- Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/local team.
- Receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Society or an appropriate designated Professional Body, and observe all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice including the British Psychological Society.
- Provide clinical supervision and consultation to the wider community mental health teams and support integrated mental health team working.
Communication and Working Relationships
- Communicate with clients, family and carers in a highly skilled and sensitive manner.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary team colleagues.
- Communicate with health & social care staff in hospital and community settings and support application of psychological principles.
- Build relationships with senior managers & professional staff across the Psychology and Therapy service and DPT.
Planning and Organisation
- Plan and prioritise own workload, balancing patient care with support and guidance of carers and professionals.
- Contribute to planning and organising of the psychology and therapy services within the locality.
- Provide psychological knowledge to the multi-professional planning and development of mental health and wellbeing services.
Professional Development and Supervision
- Lead and deliver supervision to assistants and/or trainees as required.
- Attend and contribute to service development and redesign projects.
Information Resources and Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with Trust Practice Standards.
- Use email account to generate, monitor, and respond to internal communication.
Policy, Service, Research and Innovation
- Support proposed changes for policy and service development.
- Utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice.
- Collect clinical practice and outcome data for service evaluation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Qualified Clinical Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society, or Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist/ Psychological Therapist.
- Registration with HCPC/UKCP/Other specialist regulatory body.
Experience
- Experience, and/or training in diversity awareness and social inequality, gained during supervised training in adult mental health or psychology or psychological therapies services.
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across a range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings; experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Broad knowledge and familiarity of specialist services and the NHS psychology and psychological therapies services.
- Excellent verbal, non‑verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical and judgemental skills for integrating complex data, making evaluations and decisions, and long‑term planning.
- Organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative within a networked service.
- Travel to meet the requirements of the role.

Salary
£49,387 to £56,515 a year pro rata (30 hours per week).
