An established manufacturer of special purpose machinery for the food industry is now seeking a self‑motivated, mechanically biased service engineer to join their international service team. The role is ideal for an apprentice trained or mechanical qualified engineer with experience installing, commissioning and servicing complex electro‑mechanical machinery within the food processing industry.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with Commercial Department, Works and Customers to plan all service, installation and training work efficiently and cost effectively.
- Carry out routine mechanical and basic electrical maintenance and unplanned service work as and when required, including out‑of‑hours breakdowns.
- Attend Works during customer pre‑delivery acceptance tests when necessary.
- Work with the Service Manager on pro‑active initiatives to increase opportunities for planned and contract maintenance and spares sales.
- Promote the sale of spare parts and preventative maintenance contracts.
- Promote the company in a positive and professional way at all times.
- Assist the Sales Team with customer demonstrations, product trials, technical support, customer visits and exhibitions when required.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all service work undertaken and ensure the timely submission of timesheets, expense claims, invoices and visit reports.
- Provide detailed feedback on field service problems and how they were overcome.
- Manage and control hours worked to ensure safe and efficient working.
- Work in accordance with company procedures, guidelines and terms of reference at all times.
- Carry out duties in compliance with all applicable laws and customer plant regulations, and with due regard for the health and safety of others.
- Complete other tasks as requested within the competence of the role.
Requirements
- Mechanical bias, apprentice trained or mechanically qualified engineer.
- Experience installing, commissioning and servicing electro‑mechanical machinery in the food processing industry.
- Experience with automated PLC‑controlled equipment is desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide (Europe, Asia, US, Middle East) for up to 2–3 days to 1–2 week stints.
- Level headed, able to resolve mechanical problems and enjoy overseas travel.
- Living within a suitable commuting distance of Bedford.
