Salary: £31.7k per annum (increase to £35.2k upon successful completion of probationary period).
Once qualified, your earning potential increases with additionally paid standby & overtime.

How you’ll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm
- Support engineers on site and learn from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
- Excavate, dig in the public & private highways, lay and repair gas pipes, working in various outdoor environments safely as part of a team.
- Be part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year round and at any time day or night – standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours.
- Maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring the team has all equipment to do the job safely and efficiently.

- Is comfortable working on a rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights: We keep our customers safe and warm. We are on hand to attend and repair gas escapes 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Will be required to be clean shaven: As part of our commitment to the personal safety of our employees you will be required to be clean shaven, and pass a face fit test, to wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus. This is for personal protection to ensure you don’t breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.
- Holds a valid UK driver’s licence: A full, valid UK driver’s licence is essential for this role.
- Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.

The Process

- Stage 2 – Online Task‑Based Assessment: You will be completing some exciting and intuitive online tasks to help get to know you better (25 minutes). You will receive your own individualised feedback report on your strengths and areas for future focus. If you are based within a commutable distance, you will be invited to this stage.
- Stage 3 – Interview/Assessment Centre: Here, we’ll explore your match to the role further via interview questions and other tasks. It will be an opportunity for you also to ask us questions.
