Opportunity

Position: Engineer – Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radiation Effects (RE) project team. Salary up to £57,000, depending on experience and grade. Hybrid working – 2 to 3 days per week on‑site due to workload classification. Security clearance required: British Citizen. Successful candidates will undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS) administered by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

Responsibilities

The role is part of the Digital and Radiation Effects project team, focusing on the investigation and deployment of novel digital proving techniques and methodology. Key tasks include:

  • Simulate electromagnetic environments in our state‑of‑the‑art EMC Facility
  • Develop test plans, design guidance and EMC requirements
  • Perform electromagnetic modelling and simulation (e.g., FEM/FIT solvers)
  • Execute verification and validation (V&V) processes for numerical solvers and simulation models
  • Write Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERSs) and related documentation
  • Collaborate with project teams across MBDA, reviewing hardware and conducting investigative testing
  • Contribute to risk‑reduction and qualification strategies to expedite product service entry while maintaining assurance levels

Qualifications

  • Higher education or significant experience in Electronics, Electrical, Physics, EMC or a related field
  • Hands‑on experience with FEM, FIT simulation solvers or comparable tools
  • Proficiency with SPICE simulation tools
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and knowledge of electronic technologies
  • Ability to meet defined deadlines and manage within budget limits

Desirable

  • Experience with EM simulation solvers such as CST Studio or ANSYS HFSS
  • Verification and validation experience of numerical solvers in a defence context
  • Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) experience in any package
  • Good understanding of Radiation Effects and EMC design
  • Experience delivering support around EMC and defensive EMC standards (e.g., Defence Standard 59‑114 / 59‑411, AECTP500, Mil‑Std‑461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED‑14)
  • Familiarity with electronic design, development, and delivery processes

Training will be provided for candidates without explicit EMC experience.
