Salary

Up to £57,000, depending on experience/grade

Hybrid Working

2 – 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance

British Citizen. All successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

Role

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radiation Effects (RE) department is split between a test team in our state‑of‑the‑art EMC Facility and several highly skilled project teams embedded across all projects within MBDA. These teams cover areas including EMC requirements, test planning, design guidance, electromagnetic modelling and simulation and Radiation Effects assessment.

This role is within our Digital and Radiation Effects project team, investigating and deploying novel digital proving techniques and methodology. It includes quality assurance processes for electromagnetic modelling and simulation such as Verification and Validation (V&V).

As part of a collaborative team you will help establish, progress and deliver risk reduction and qualification strategies that bring products into service more efficiently, while maintaining required assurance levels. You will also have opportunities to learn from, and work with, EMC project engineers in parallel teams. Tasks may include writing Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERSs) and related documentation, or hands‑on review of hardware with investigative testing.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Higher education or significant experience within Electronics, Electrical, Physics, EMC or similar subjects
  • Experience with Finite Element Method (FEM), Finite Integration Technique (FIT) simulation solvers or similar
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and knowledge of electronic technologies
  • Experience with SPICE simulation tools
  • Ability to work to defined deadlines and within budget limits

Desirable

  • Experience with EM simulation solvers such as CST Studio and ANSYS HFSS
  • Verification and validation (V&V) experience of numerical solvers
  • Experience in a defence context
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience in any package
  • Good understanding of Radiation Effects, EMC or EMC design
  • Previous experience delivering support around EMC; training will be provided for those without explicit EMC experience
  • Experience in electronic design, development and delivery
  • Knowledge of applying military EMC standards to system, sub‑system or equipment levels (e.g. Defence Standard 59-114 / 59-411, AECTP500, Mil-Std-461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED-14)
