You will be based at our office in Knutsford with the opportunity for hybrid working. There may be occasional travel to other offices and client sites. This is a full-time permanent position.
The Role
Reporting to the Associate Director Projects Group, the Lead EC&I Engineer is responsible for all aspects of EC&I design and engineering delivered by the Project Group. This includes projects across Waste, Renewables, Chemicals, Nuclear and Petrochemical sectors for a wide range of clients, and supporting the Technology and Innovation Group in developing and delivering our own technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Building, managing and developing a team of EC&I engineers and designers.
- Preparing, checking and approving design work packages including control architecture diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, motor schematics, cable block diagrams, cable routing/layouts, instrument and electrical schedules, lighting specifications, MCC design specifications and layouts, and other EC&I deliverables required for project delivery.
- Preparing, checking and approving specifications and scopes of work for installation contractors and equipment suppliers.
- Providing direct input or oversight of on-site construction and commissioning support, as required by the project.
- Ensuring EC&I deliverables produced by the Projects Group meet quality, standard and budget requirements.
- Participating in project design reviews and risk assessments.
- Reviewing and developing strategic planning and proposing new business opportunities.
- Supporting preparation of proposals, including deliverable lists and cost, time and resource budget estimates.
- Proactively engaging with customers internally and externally, developing and maintaining strong, positive business relationships.
- Occasional travel to supplier FATs and construction sites.
About you
- Ideally educated to a degree level in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation Engineering or an associated discipline.
- Experience in the petrochemicals, nuclear, chemicals, waste or renewable energy industries.
- Experience managing design and engineering teams across electrical, control and instrumentation.
- Experience producing and checking EC&I deliverables such as scopes of work, specifications, schedules, single-line diagrams, block cable diagrams, URS and FDS.
- Experience managing 3rd party design consultants and suppliers.
- Knowledge of LV distribution, control systems, networks and architecture.
- Knowledge of three-phase motors, drives and MCC panels.
- Knowledge of DSEAR/ATEX, hazardous area classification, equipment design and safety cases.
- Familiarity with engineering standards and specifications in highly regulated environments, including CDM Designer and Principal Designer roles.
- Ability to perform accurate design calculations and complete hour and cost estimates.
- Strategic thinking and understanding the implications of changes to contract scope.
- Collaborative working with all engineering design and construction disciplines.
- Must be able to secure and maintain SC clearance.
- Working knowledge of Office 365, including OneDrive and SharePoint, and proficient use of Word and Excel.
- Eligible to live and work in the UK (with no restrictions).
- Full UK/EEC driving licence.
Desirable
- Awareness of high-voltage design and engineering and liaising with DNOs.
- Experience using Trimble ProDesign (AMTECH).
- Experience in safety systems design and validation (BS EN 61508 and BS EN 61511).
- CompEx Ex 12 certification.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must achieve and maintain at least SC clearance for this role.
