Consultant Neurologist

The Consultant Neurologist post at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a permanent 10‑PA role within the Division of Medicine, Diagnostics and Clinical Support Services. The core purpose is to deliver and develop neurology services in partnership with stroke medicine and acute frailty care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and inpatient consultations.
• Provide expert clinical advice to colleagues across specialties.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, education programmes, audit, and clinical governance activities.
• Train and supervise junior doctors; support continuous service improvement.
• Engage in professional development, research, teaching, and innovation.
• Lead strategic development of the neurology service, including service transformation, quality improvement, and compliance with national and local standards.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration.
• MBBS or equivalent.
• MRCP or equivalent.
• ALS.
• MD, PhD or equivalent.

Experience and Knowledge

• Wide experience in neurology.
• Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a broad range of neurological problems, including stroke medicine.

Academic Achievements

• Use of research outcomes in clinical practice.
• Knowledge of evidence‑based medicine to support decision making.
• Experience conducting clinical audit.
• Involvement in research projects and published papers.
