We’re looking for a Lead Contract Officer to join our Kier Places team based across various locations with agile working available.

08:30 – 17:00 (Flexible). Some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Role Summary

As Lead Contract Officer, you will be at the heart of protecting the business by managing contractual and commercial risk across projects and frameworks. You will lead a talented team and provide expert guidance on contract terms, ensuring every agreement starts from the strongest possible position. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape how we work, influence strategic decisions, and support our growth ambitions across the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Contract Officer team, ensuring effective resource allocation and supporting business growth.
  • Manage the Permission to Proceed approval system, preparing reports and workflows for project tenders and framework opportunities.
  • Provide expert contractual advice throughout the project lifecycle, from tender through to delivery and completion.
  • Negotiate and resolve contract terms and conditions, liaising with Kier Legal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Coordinate training and promote commercial awareness across business units, ensuring compliance with Group standards and policies.
  • Act as an ambassador for Kier’s standard contractual positions, promoting understanding and compliance across the business unit and Kier Group.
  • Support on larger subcontract packages of work management including gateway reviews.
  • Support on commercial claims, major risks and/or opportunities.
  • Lead and support Business Unit training on contract awareness and specific contract requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience in a contracts‑related role such as Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor, ideally from a construction, residential or facilities management background.
  • In‑depth knowledge of various contract forms.
  • Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated experience supporting the business area to become naturally digital.
  • Current knowledge of construction and/or facilities management law and ability to apply specialist legal and technical advice to protect commercial positions.
