Locum Consultant in Dermatology – 12‑month contract. We are seeking a Locum Consultant in Dermatology to join our friendly, supportive team, which includes 11 consultants, a consultant/associate specialist, two specialist registrars on the Yorkshire rotation, hospital practitioners, a Physician Associate, GP trainees, Advanced Nurse Practitioners in skin cancer, and specialist nursing teams for chronic disease and skin cancer.
Our service has dedicated dermatology theatres and facilities for PDT, phototherapy and patch testing, with day‑case theatres available for complex surgical procedures. Nurse‑led services include dermatological surgery, leg ulcer and lymphoedema management, cryotherapy, drug monitoring, skin cancer diagnosis and follow‑up. The skin cancer CNS team supports patients through follow‑up clinics, and the department works closely with Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Rheumatology.
The post is primarily based at York Teaching Hospital, delivering general dermatology services across York, Selby, Scarborough, Bridlington and Malton. An active teledermatology service supports advice and guidance and new patient referral triage.
In‑patient services are provided at York and Scarborough through a daytime dermatology on‑call rota, supported by electronic referrals and remote review. Interviews will be held in person on Tuesday 29th September for this post.
Main duties of the job
- Provide general/specialist outpatient clinics and surgical lists, including 5–6 outpatient clinics per week (general clinics, surgical lists, telephone/teledermatology clinics and special interest clinics). Also contribute to the consultant on‑call rota.
- Contribute to a once‑a‑month joint difficult cases clinic and weekly skin cancer multidisciplinary meetings.
- Support daytime dermatology on‑call rota for York and Scarborough in‑patients.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Support and Cancer Services Care Group and Clinical Director on job plan development.

This post is a fixed‑term post primarily based at York Hospital and one East Coast peripheral hospital. A full‑time post is likely to consist of 5–6 outpatient clinics a week. Travel time to peripheral hospitals will be supported within the job plan.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Eligible for full GMC registration with licence to practice.
- Entry on the relevant GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR.
- MRCP or equivalent qualification.
Desirable qualifications
- MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research.
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
- Substantive NHS experience.
Clinical practice / competence
- Essential:
- Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and skill.
- Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings.
- Able to critically review and apply research to clinical situations.
- Desirable:
