Consultant Cardiologist Heart Failure and Device

Candidates are invited to apply for the post of Consultant Cardiologist with specialist interest in Heart Failure and Devices.

The post will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, London which is part of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, providing high quality care to patients across the London boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated, enthusiastic team to develop and provide high quality services. The successful candidate will lead and develop the heart failure service, working with colleagues within the Trust and specialist teams in the community. They will also contribute to the expansion of the simple and complex cardiac implantable electronic device service. Inpatient cardiology care and specialist referral advice is provided with colleagues via a Cardiologist of the week rot

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will have an active role in our undergraduate and post-graduate trainee teaching programmes for United Kingdom and international students.

All candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration and be within 6 months of their Certificate of Completion of Training of the interview date.

Qualifications

  • oMB BS or equivalent
  • oMRCP or equivalent
  • oEntry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) o Completion o
  • oSub-specialty training in Complex Device Therapy and Heart Failure
  • o Completion of Accredited UK Coronary Intervention Training Program
  • o MD/PhD or other higher degree

Clinical Experience

  • oBroad based training and experience in cardiovascular medicine
  • oEvidence of advanced training in sub-specialty
  • oAbility to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems relating to Cardiology
  • oAbility to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
  • oIT Literate
  • o Has undertaken relevant specialty audit
  • o Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications.
  • o Previous experience of clinical governance, clinical risk management and associated areas.

Teaching Experience

  • o Experience and strong commitment to undergraduate and post graduate teaching.
  • o Formal teaching qualification(s)

Management and Administrative Experience

  • o Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities and treatment.
  • o Experience of audit management
  • o Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
  • o Evidence of previous experience in clinical or service development
  • o Previous formal training in management.

Research Experience

  • o Knowledge of research methodology & clinical trials
  • o Interest in pursuing relevant clinical research
  • o Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • o Presentations at recognised national & international meetings on relevant topics

Other Attributes

  • o Ability to provide leadership where appropriate
  • o The ability to work within a team and have the flexibility to respond to the varying needs of a busy department
  • o Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • o Evidence of ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • o Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
