Product Security Engineer – Derby / Bristol, Full Time
Overview
As a Product Security Engineer you will secure a range of Rolls‑Royce products against an evolving set of security threats (cyber, supply chain, etc.). You may be involved at any project life‑cycle stage from concept development, design and integration, through integrated/component testing to final production release, working in cross‑functional project teams.
Key Accountabilities
- Contribution to the Secure Cyber Resilient Engineering (SCRE) of our products, applying technical knowledge and providing technical direction throughout the product lifecycle.
- Lead the development, implementation, documentation and maintenance of policies, procedures, guidelines, tools and training.
- Lead a small group of individuals or projects in this subject area, providing technical leadership to teams or projects and having impact through functional knowledge.
- Collaborate with government, customers, suppliers and industry experts to meet customer and system security requirements.
- Develop and update systems security and resilience good practice and disseminate techniques, policies, procedures and knowledge across the business.
- Communicate and work effectively across multiple business functions (Software, Hardware, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Corporate).
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Software, Controls, Systems, Cybersecurity) with 2+ years’ experience in a relevant engineering environment.
- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 0+ years’ experience in a relevant engineering environment.
- JD/PhD (any discipline).
Desirable
- 3+ years of experience in Systems Security Engineering on real‑time cyber‑physical embedded systems or 4+ years in a related engineering role.
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering on complex systems and strong systems‑thinking aptitude across multiple abstraction layers.
- Deep knowledge of embedded systems and the technical skills required to develop, implement and secure such cyber‑physical systems.
- Experience or interest in cybersecurity and cyber threats, e.g. designing secure products, intrusion detection, digital forensics, security solutions, policies and standards.
- Knowledge of applying systems security policies and standards such as RMF, NIST SP 800‑160, DO‑326 and DoDI 5000.83.
- Excellent communication skills – able to influence without authority and explain complex ideas simply to non‑technical audiences.
