Location: London
Job Description:

The SLAM Addictions Clinical Academic Group and South London Partnership (SLP) have collaborated to support the needs of those with co‑occurring mental health and substance use needs on the six in‑patient rehabilitation wards within the SLP footprint: Barefoot Lodge (Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust), Heather Close, Westways and Tony Hillis Unit (South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust), Burntwood Villas and Phoenix (South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and plan the delivery of a highly specialist substance use/psychological therapy service to the mental health and substance use inpatient rehab service (MHSIR) and provide expert clinical input.
  • Be responsible to the Professional Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy in Addictions for the monitoring and implementation of professional standards in the practice of psychological therapy and good practice for substance use across the MHSIR, and for the systematic and effective provision of professional and clinical supervision.
  • Contribute to a culture where staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds can flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • Plan and implement research, service evaluation and audits relevant to the service and the research agenda.
  • Be responsible for the good clinical governance, quality and evidence‑based work of practitioners in the service.
  • Work as an autonomous professional within registration body guidelines and codes of conduct, guided by principles and policies/procedures, interpreting and implementing them within the service areas of responsibility.
  • Manage both psychology and other clinical staff funded within the service to ensure a full multi‑disciplinary response and the provision of high‑quality clinical and professional supervision.
  • Ensure the service works alongside a newly commissioned peer support offer to each ward, recognising that supporting individuals to engage in activities and make positive friendships and connections can help reduce substance use.
  • Build on and implement recommendations made through an external service evaluation to support the case for continued funding for the project beyond March 2026, and to collect and analyze data on service user and carer experience, length of stay and re‑presentations to in‑patient settings.
