An opportunity has come available to join our compassionate, supportive and specialist team at FCAMHS.
We are looking for a highly specialist psychological practitioner to join our CAMHS service, providing expert assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions for children and young people with complex mental health needs. The postholder will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting young people, families and carers, contributing to risk management, consultation, teaching, audit and service development
Main duties of the job
You will carry a clinical caseload, as well as offer expert consultation/case discussion, teaching, training and supervision. There will be opportunity to develop skills in leadership.
You will be supported by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist. There are key opportunities to lead on aspects of service development, which may include supporting trauma informed care and practice and reducing health inequalities, as well as ensuring key performance targets are achieved.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality, highly-specialist psychological and psychotherapeutic services within FCAMHS
- Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based intervention for children and young people with complex mental health needs.
- Work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team to support care planning, clinical decision-making and delivery of psychologically informed care.
- Undertake risk assessment and contribute to the management of complex clinical risk.
- Communicate highly sensitive and confidential information effectively with young people, families, carers and professionals.
- Offer consultation, supervision, teaching and training
- Contribute to audit, research, service evaluation and ongoing service development.
- Promote collaborative team working and participate in clinical and managerial supervision.

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications
- Professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology at Doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
- Further post-qualification, post-graduate training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a ‘Clinical or Counselling Psychologist’.
- Training in trauma focused interventions (e.g. CBT, EMDR)
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
- Training in Rehab mental health
Experience
- Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, including relevant experience in service area.
- Experience of working with client groups experiencing moderate‑severe mental health problems across the life span. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the possible threat of physical abuse
- Experience of working with trauma and providing trauma‑focused psychological therapy.
- Experience in the application of cognitive‑behavioural approaches.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of providing supervision and training.
- Experience of working in Rehab mental health services.
- Experience of working in a secondary care service (Psychology/CMHT)
Knowledge
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
- Evidence of CPD as recommended by BPS & HCPC.
- Knowledge of policy and legislation in relation to service specialism and of relevant mental health legislation.
Skills & Abilities
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Well‑developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
