At Balfour Beatty, we deliver buildings that make a lasting difference to communities. We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Design Manager to join our team and play a leading role in the delivery of works at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a complex and high‑profile healthcare environment where design excellence, innovation and collaboration are critical to success. You will lead the design process from pre‑construction through delivery, ensuring that technical solutions meet the highest standards of quality, safety, functionality and sustainability.

Working alongside clients, consultants, clinical stakeholders and construction teams, you will help create environments that support world‑class patient care and improve outcomes for generations to come.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and managing the design process across all project stages.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams to ensure efficient and effective project delivery.
  • Managing design programmes, deliverables and technical approvals.
  • Providing technical leadership and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, statutory requirements and client specifications.
  • Identifying and mitigating design risks and driving value‑engineering opportunities.
  • Managing stakeholder engagement across clinical, operational and technical teams.
  • Supporting digital design, BIM and modern methods of construction initiatives.

Who we’re looking for

  • Significant experience in a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager role within the construction industry.
  • Proven track record delivering large, complex building projects, ideally within healthcare or other highly regulated sectors.
  • Strong technical understanding of building design, construction methodologies and project delivery.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and digital design delivery.
  • Degree qualified in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
