Lead Electrical Engineer (Stockton)
For our office in Stockton we are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead and participate in the development of the Electrical systems design for various projects across a range of industries, including nuclear, defence, process, and pharmaceuticals. The role involves producing and checking engineering deliverables throughout the full design lifecycle, supporting procurement, construction, testing and commissioning, as well as developing bid and tender information.
Responsibilities
- Lead and take responsibility for the delivery of the design aspects of the project.
- Contribute to the production of multidisciplinary design documentation, such as Project Requirement Documents, Basis of Design, Project Verification Plans, Quality Plans, and Design Justification Reports.
- Determine project requirements independently.
- Review and check design documents and electrical deliverables produced by design teams.
- Estimate hours for scope changes or additional works and outline supporting schedules for the discipline.
- Support and contribute to the delivery of Design Reviews.
- Produce reports and documentation to comply with CDM.
- Interface with the Integrated Design Team, facility team (including systems engineering), and other project functions, working closely throughout all project phases.
- Actively participate in the technical development of engineering team members, including apprentices, graduates, and junior engineers, and contribute to the production of department procedures, work instructions, design guides, and templates.
Requirements
- Management of design delivery teams.
- Good working knowledge of Wiring Regulations (BS7671) as applied to industrial installations.
- Working knowledge of Machinery Safety and UKCA Marking.
- Good working knowledge of switchgear standards BS EN 62271 (voltage ranges 1kV to 52kV) and BS EN 60947.
- Knowledge of BS EN 60909 for fault‑level studies, and experience with load‑flow and motor‑starting studies using SKM Powertools or ETAP software.
- Design and specification of lightning protection systems, including risk assessments per BS EN IEC 62305.
- Design and specification of earthing systems according to applicable standards.
- Determination of touch and step potentials during fault and lightning strike conditions.
- Knowledge and experience in selecting surge protection equipment in line with standards and wiring regulations.
- Understanding and application of required deliverables and design processes for electrical engineering information, including installation details.
- Experience delivering within formal Business Management systems.
- Ability to estimate and schedule production, and provide progress reporting.
- Strong collaborative teamwork skills.
