Planning for South Staffordshire

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward‑thinking local planning authority that prides itself on delivering a first‑class service. Are you an experienced planner looking for more responsibility, or a chance to gain experience and work across a variety of projects? We are looking for a planner who can ideally hit the ground running and who can deal with minor planning applications. The suitable candidate may already have experience and knowledge, or be willing and enthusiastic to embark on further learning and professional development.

South Staffordshire is a diverse district, made up of a collection of large and small villages, each with its own distinctive character set in an attractive semi‑rural area on the western edge of the West Midlands conurbation. Around 80% of the district is Green Belt and we have a rich legacy of historic buildings and conservation areas. We are also home to some major employers such as Jaguar Land Rover and Moog Aerospace on our i54 South Staffordshire site, one of our four strategic employment sites.

At South Staffordshire, Development Management, Strategic Planning and Planning Enforcement work together as a team to provide a holistic service, with everyone playing their part and supporting one another. We are also rightly proud of our positive relationship with elected members and our local communities.

South Staffordshire Council

South Staffordshire Council is an ambitious and progressive council seeking to recruit candidates who can help us realise our ambitions and contribute to the delivery of our Council priorities: a skilled and prosperous district; a safe and sustainable district and a connected district. The council is also pioneering in its approach to become financially self‑sustainable by 2020 through the delivery of its Income and Efficiency Plan.

At South Staffordshire Council, it’s less about what we do; but the impact it will have on our 110,700 residents and 5,516 businesses. Our key ambitions include growing South Staffordshire’s economy and helping create more jobs and opportunities for local people.

We offer a wide range of benefits including:

  • Competitive salaries that progress within different grades for the variety of jobs on offer
  • A generous annual leave entitlement starting at 24 days and increasing with service
  • 8 bank holidays and 2 additional statutory days
  • An option to buy up to 10 days additional leave
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Salary Sacrifice scheme for childcare vouchers
  • Wide range of flexible working options to fit around your commitments
