Chaplaincy Service Manager

To maintain and develop a Chaplaincy Service within a multi‑denominational and multi‑faith team, ensuring the provision of a professional ministry and high quality spiritual healthcare and pastoral support, through the management of chaplains and oversight of the chaplaincy team and its activities.
Principal responsibilities include:
- Lead the Chaplaincy team and manage the operational delivery and strategic development of Chaplaincy services across the Trust, ensuring implementation of all corporate and departmental policies.
- Line‑manage team chaplains, bank chaplains, chaplaincy volunteers, Eucharistic ministers, and those on student/work experience placements.
- Contribute to multi‑disciplinary committees and liaise with medical, nursing, AHP and management staff to plan and deliver enhanced patient care.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local churches, faith groups, and community organisations.
- Monitor and evaluate the needs of the multi‑faith, multi‑cultural community and support training and development for staff.
Qualifications
- Appropriate accredited ministerial and theological education (professional qualification) preferably at degree standard.
- Appropriate accreditation by the faith group.
- Registrant member of the UKBHC, or willingness to work towards registration.
Experience
- Experience in healthcare chaplaincy.
- Understanding of Equality and Diversity legislation.
- Self‑motivated and able to prioritise, working independently or collaboratively within a multi‑belief team.
- Procedural knowledge of healthcare chaplaincy.
- Knowledge of and sympathy with multi‑faith issues.
- Ability to work in a stressful and emotional environment with patients, relatives and staff.
Communication
- Ability to communicate verbally and non‑verbally with sensitivity and respect for the patient’s condition and spiritual needs.
- Ability to communicate with people from diverse social, belief, or non‑belief, and ethnic backgrounds impartially and without judgement.
