About the Firm
A unique opportunity has arisen within the General Counsel’s Office of a leading international law firm, offering exposure to high-level internal legal, risk and governance matters. The role involves supporting business operations, strengthening client relationships and providing practical, commercially focused advice across the wider practice. Based in Birmingham or Manchester, this position offers a collaborative and forward-thinking environment where lawyers can work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to meaningful strategic projects.
The Opportunity
- Join the Client Contracts & Commercial Team within the General Counsel’s Office, supporting client engagement across the firm.
- Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of client-facing contracts, including commercial, technology and AI-related arrangements.
- Provide clear, practical and commercially grounded legal advice to internal stakeholders across practice groups.
- Ensure contractual arrangements align with legal, regulatory, internal policy and wider risk requirements.
- Identify and manage legal and commercial risks while collaborating with colleagues across the General Counsel’s Office and wider firm.
- Support internal governance processes, including appropriate escalation of complex or sensitive matters.
- Contribute to ad hoc projects including process improvements, policy development and best practice initiatives.
- Champion the use of legal technology and contract-management tools to improve efficiency and streamline contracting processes.
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified solicitor, typically with 3+ years’ PQE, although all suitable experience will be considered.
- Strong experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Previous in‑house or law firm experience would be highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to provide practical, accessible and commercially sound advice.
- Confident working on unfamiliar, complex or evolving subject areas, including technology and AI-related matters.
- Strong organisation and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters at pace.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Calm, resilient and professional under pressure, with sound judgment and a collaborative approach.
- Genuine interest in legal technology, contract process improvement and efficient ways of working.
