About the role
We’re looking for an exceptional Transport Operations Manager to lead a diverse transport operation that supports critical NHS services across East Kent. From ensuring pathology samples reach laboratories on time to managing pharmacy deliveries, staff transport, fleet operations, and specialist transport support services, you’ll play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and reliable services that directly support patient care.

As Transport Operations Manager, you’ll:
- Lead and inspire a team of Logistics Team Leaders and professional drivers across multiple sites.
- Manage a fleet of lease vehicles, ensuring full compliance, maintenance and lifecycle planning.
- Oversee transport services including pathology collections, pharmacy deliveries, internal post, staff shuttle services, taxi and courier bookings.
- Ensure services consistently achieve contractual KPIs and Service Level Agreements.
- Manage an annual operational budget, identifying efficiencies while maintaining excellent service quality.
- Build strong relationships with clinical teams, senior stakeholders and external partners.
- Champion continuous improvement, customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
- Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, fleet governance, health & safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop business continuity plans and lead service transformation initiatives.
About you
- Experience leading transport or logistics operations across multiple sites, with a proven track record of managing large teams within a busy operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of transport logistics, fleet management and operational planning.
- Experience managing budgets and delivering measurable performance improvements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Operational Management or Transport Management.
- A full UK driving licence with D1 entitlement.
- The ability to travel across Trust sites.
- A commitment to achieving (or already holding) a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage and Passenger Transport.
