NRS South-East Cancer Research Network

CLINICAL TRIALS DATA MANAGER

Agenda for Change Band 5

Full Time – 36 hours per week

12 months fixed term

Base: Edinburgh Cancer Centre, Western General Hospital

The Edinburgh Cancer Centre at the Western General Hospital is a participating centre of the NRS South-East Cancer Research Network (SE-CRN), an organisation which aims to increase patient participation in cancer clinical trials throughout Scotland. SE-CRN supports the provision of cancer clinical trials in a geographic area comprising the Health Board areas of NHS Lothian, NHS Fife, NHS Borders and NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

A vacancy has opened within the data management team for a full-time Clinical Trials Data Manager (AfC Band 5). The successful candidate will collaborate with existing data management staff and medical and nursing colleagues to facilitate the collection and reporting of high-quality clinical data for clinical trials, ensuring adherence to protocol requirements and recognised standards, such as ICH GCP. The role includes recording and reporting clinical data and closely liaising with clinical trial sponsors and coordinating centres to ensure that all aspects in the delivery of clinical trials comply with regulatory guidelines and sponsor requirements.

Educated to degree level or with relevant experience, the post-holder should have strong analytical and reporting skills with an ability to focus on detail. It would be advantageous to have previous experience of working in a clinical trial environment and knowledge of medical terminology. Strong inter-personal and communication skills are essential for the development of professional relationships across all clinical and non-clinical staff groups and departments involved in the running of clinical trials. The post-holder must be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in an ever-changing work environment including the ability to work on trials across a variety of cancer groups when required to meet departmental demand.

Candidates should note that the post holder will be expected to work from site for their contracted hours. This post is not suitable for home/remote working.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service. Further information on what NHS Scotland Boards are required to do to check this as well as what your responsibilities include can be found in the further information for this vacancy.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a ‘regulated role’, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.
