Permanent Small Animal Night Vet – Independent Practice

Location: Hook Norton Veterinary Group, OX15 5DG. Shift pattern: 1:3 weeks – 7 nights on, 14 nights off (6pm to 8am). Salary range: £68‑73k per annum.

Hook Norton Veterinary Group is a proudly independent practice delivering exceptional 24‑hour care across small animal, equine, and farm. With a dedicated Night Vet and Nurse Team, we provide round the clock support exclusively for our own clients, ensuring manageable caseloads and true continuity of care. As a Night Vet, you’ll enjoy real clinical freedom, handling everything from inpatients to unexpected overnight emergencies. Your shift runs from a 6pm handover through evening consults and ward rounds, settling into night checks before finishing at 8am with a smooth morning handover. Enjoy a highly attractive 1‑week‑on, 2‑weeks‑off rota that gives you the space to recharge and live life fully.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing continuous overnight care for hospitalised small animal patients
  • Managing emergency cases for our clients, with clinical freedom and support where needed
  • Carrying out initial evening consults, ward rounds, regular checks, monitoring and discharges
  • Working closely with our experienced Night Nurse Team to deliver calm, consistent care
  • Preparing clear clinical notes and handovers to support seamless continuity of care
  • Helping ensure the hospital is well prepared for the day team each morning

Essentials:

  • At least 3 years’ UK experience in a Small Animal Vet or Night Vet role
  • RCVS registered and confident working sole charge overnight
  • Comfortable managing inpatient care and emergency cases
  • A calm, compassionate communicator who can support clients sensitively
  • Strong clinical judgement, organisation and attention to detail
  • Able to work independently while remaining part of a collaborative wider team
  • Own transport is essential due to our rural location
