Howden Turbo UK is looking for a skilled Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Field Service Engineer (EC&I) to join our global Field Service team. This hands‑on, technically challenging role supports customers worldwide with the overhaul, maintenance, commissioning and optimisation of steam turbines and associated control systems.

This is a home‑based role with extensive worldwide travel, often at short notice.

What will you do?

  • Deliver work safely, professionally and to a high technical standard – right first time, on time
  • Produce clear, detailed Site Reports, highlighting actions, risks and improvement opportunities
  • Supervise customer or company technicians on site, ensuring safe working practices and task discipline
  • Complete risk assessments and follow all health & safety procedures
  • Support project teams with mobilisation planning and on‑site communication
  • Represent Howden professionally, maintaining strong customer relationships and acting as a trusted technical partner

What do you bring?

  • Strong EC&I background with experience in PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting, including:
    • Rockwell (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, Logix 500, FactoryTalk)
    • Siemens (PCS7, Step 7, WinCC, TIA Portal)
    • Schneider (Control Expert / SCADA Expert)
    • Woodward 505 governors, Basler DECS 200/250 AVR
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols: Modbus (RS485/TCP), Profibus, Profinet, ControlNet, basic TCP networking
  • Experience with power generation systems (5-30MW) – governor/excitation systems, droop/isochronous control, active/reactive power, pressure regulation
  • Knowledge of steam turbine maintenance and repair
  • Ability to supervise others during complex installation, commissioning and maintenance activities
  • Strong customer‑facing skills and ability to build effective working relationships
  • Excellent written communication – produce risk assessments, site reports, RCAs, method statements and scopes of work
  • Experience working internationally, including in non‑English‑speaking environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience with steam turbine installation and commissioning (training can be provided)
  • Offshore experience
  • Daily allowances, dependent on location, are paid for site works
