Role Overview
As Engineering Manager you will be aligned to the BEMEX and TRS+Pay Transparency teams. The BEMEX team owns the employee‑facing Benefits experience, a platform used by 8 million people. The TRS team builds applications that help employees understand their total compensation and salary benchmarks. This role requires individuals based in the UK or Ireland; visa sponsorship is not available.

Responsibilities
- Directly manage engineering teams, guide work, estimations and remove blockers. Act as the first escalation point.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Tech Leads to coach squad members on technical contributions, product roadmap and other areas.
- Provide feedback and help engineers grow their skills while ensuring adherence to development methodologies.
- Standardise processes such as agile ceremonies and code quality standards, while allowing squad autonomy for effective delivery.
- Track tasks, maintain project velocity, and own squad‑level deliverables against the roadmap.
- Align teams through regular sync‑ups to maintain clarity.
- Align on company objectives and measurable outcomes through transparent OKRs.
- Proactively monitor engineer well‑being, spot burnout, and suggest solutions; report up to address systemic issues.
- Use metrics to track quality and delivery; encourage retrospective analysis for continuous improvement.
- Recognise milestones and individual contributions to build morale and engagement.
Qualifications
- Experience working in world‑class product or tech organisations, such as Google, Microsoft, Uber, Booking.com, Monzo, N26 or Personio.
- Demonstrable ability in building and leading high‑calibre engineering teams.
- Experience leading engineering teams on generative AI projects, including prompt engineering, fine‑tuning and retrieval‑augmented generation.

- Understanding technical requirements with a focus on quality: translate product requirements into squad plans and capacity, while maintaining high coding standards and preventing technical debt.
- People management: motivate, provide constructive feedback, manage performance and resolve interpersonal conflicts within a team.
- Agile expertise: implement and iterate on agile processes such as Scrum or Kanban, including task breakdown, estimation and sprint planning.
- Collaborative and empathetic: possess strong communication skills and build positive relationships with engineers, focusing on understanding their motivations and work styles.
- Quality champion: motivate high‑quality code and instill a focus on maintainability, testing and code standards within the team.
- Results‑driven and process‑oriented: balance adherence to agile methodologies and delivery timelines with continuous improvement, familiar with OKRs to set measurable goals.
- Passion for product: care about why we are building a product and the value it brings to users, and how we build it with quality and standards.
